Good design increases exports for young SME in Czech Republic
A competition
organised by SEEdesign partner, Design Centre of the Czech Republic, to find the Excellent Product of 2007, has been won by a young SME, PATRON Bohemia. Based in Melnik, near Prague, the company designed a multipurpose, fully foldable alu-stroller for disabled children in need of special care. The competition was judged by an independent, international jury who praised the product for its highly successful design.
The effectiveness of this design resulted from both the designerâs skill and their co-operation with other disciplines â in this case ergonomics and textile specialists.
Aluminium is used as the basic material to create a lighter product and the fully adjustable seat and accessories provide vital flexibility, enabling it to be customised to each childâs specific requirements. The product corresponds to all the latest EC standards and satisfies all hygiene and safety requirements. It is manufactured in 3 sizes and sells at a reasonable price. This combination produces a user-friendly product which looks similar in all aspects to strollers not designed for children with special needs.
The stroller has been a big success in the CzechRepublic and is also selling well in other countries. As a result the company has had to increase its production to satisfy demand.
